Wake Up Wells Community Day: The Big Picnic

We are delighted to confirm that Wake Up Wells Community Day: The Big Picnic WILL be taking place on Saturday 24th July between 11am and 4pm at Wells Cathedral, Cathedral Green, Wells Cathedral School, Wells Museum and Bishop’s Palace.

Bring a picnic lunch and join with the community in celebrating our special city and all it has to offer, with music, dance demonstrations, family workshops and have-a-go activities, outdoor theatre, a country fete and exhibition stalls.

This event couldn’t happen without the generosity and support of the community, particularly the Wells Heritage Partners - Wells Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and Wells Museum, Mendip District and Wells City councils, Rotary Club of Wells, Project Factory CIC, Wells Community Network, Sustainable Wells Fresh & Good Collective, Mendip Community Policing - there are too many to mention. And finally a big thank you to the National Lottery Community Fund for sponsoring this event.

Light Up Wells!

Sadly, we cannot hold a lantern parade in January 2021, but we are selling lantern kits, with instructions, so you can make your own lantern and display it in your window to bring some much needed cheer to "Light Up" our community on the weekend of 23rd and 24th January 2021.

There will be displays of lanterns at the Bishop's Palace and Wells Cathedral and a trail of lanterns in the City Centre to follow. If you would like to take part - we will be selling lantern kits at Wells Market on Saturday 12th December 2020 at a cost of £4 per kit.

Could you use a little extra support from the Wells Coronavirus Network?

The Network was established back in the first lockdown in 2020 and has been busily providing support for the residents of Wells and the surrounding areas in everything from collecting and delivering groceries and prescriptions to providing a friendly listening ear on the phone.

And, of course, if you’re able to volunteer to become a part of the support network, we’d also love to hear from you.

Get in touch with the Wells Coronavirus Network to find out more.
